Wyrdlam Wolves

The lycanthropy virus caused the evolution of the Were-Wolf, the mutation of man and the common timber wolf. Few know of the much earlier Wyrdlam Wolves (or Wyr-wolf, from which the name Were-wolf is thought to have originated), which is a similar mutation but involved the ancient Dire Wolf instead of the more recent Timber Wolf. These are huge beasts, some 15 feet tall and weighing close to two tons. They primarily keep to the outer reaches of the sanctuary to the South, near the dragons. However, they will come closer when their pups are exploring. Listen for their young at play, with their distinctive yapping as they try to imitate the growling of their parents. Human ears cannot hear the deep growl of the parents, but I often hear and feel the rumble through the ground when the pack is running.The normal Were-Wolf precautions of wolfs-bane and silver are useless on the Wyrdlam Wolves. Unlike the werewolf and wereboar, the mutation between man and dire wolf is permanent, it does not depend on the moon’s phase.
