Rarely seen, these creatures are nocturnal and usually solitary. They resemble a cross between a wolverine and a porcupine. Not aggressive, but will defend themselves if approached. Their defense mechanism is very effective, rolling at the legs of the attackers to embed their poisonous “quills”, being like needles with large barbs. The individual quills each exude a highly potent hallucinogen toxin capable of inducing a delirious state within seconds, victims tend to drown themselves shortly after being injected. When properly administered though, Babelbroot toxin is a key ingredient in many potions to counter the effects of dark magic.
Babblebroot frequently shed their quills, the barbs decay quickly leaving the fibrous core with its telltale purple stripe. The neuro-toxin remains even in shed quills for months.
